Summary
In 13th-Century Japan, a land of
ghosts and demons, ancient spirits and shapeshifting animals,
Ken’ishi is a warrior without master or family.
Orphaned as an infant, he has only one link to his mysterious
past—Silver Crane, the sword handed down from his
father. When Silver Crane is stolen,
Ken’ishi must go on a quest to recover his very
identity. One man knows of Silver Crane’s
significance, the underworld crime lord known as Green Tiger.
A remnant of the shattered Taira clan, he dreams of the day
when he can destroy the shogunate and bring his clan back to
prominence. His intrigues stretch across the breadth of
Japan, beyond the sea to China, where the Mongol emperor
Khubilai Khan builds an invasion fleet and expands an
empire. With only a wooden sword for a weapon
and a strange old man for a companion, Ken’ishi’s
quest will take him deep into the shadows of a hidden world
of flesh houses, Chinese smugglers, and Mongol spies. To succeed and unleash the power of
Silver Crane, he must face the darkness in his own soul.
