Summary
In the world of Gaya there are but seven Hunters, the
militant servants of Dal the Protector. Their task is a
dangerous one: they must root out enclaves of the nefarious
Cult of Katavi, the Demon Lord. Kallis, one of the most
skilled Hunters, has devoted his life to this holy service.
Yet in the two thousand years since the fall of the old
Soranian empire, there has been little real threat to the
stability of the civilized nations. All of that changes with the birth of a halfbreed –
half human, half demon – in Pyria, the greatest of the
civilized nations. No such birth has occurred since the fall
of the old world. The creature flees into the wilderness
before it can be killed and Kallis is tasked with tracking it
down and destroying it. The journey takes him and his
priestly companion, Vander, deep into the barbaric lands to
the south, where the devolved half-men of Goraspa live in
scattered tribes, scratching out a living from a harsh and
unforgiving land. The Goraspans themselves are the sad
remnants of the very people who once ruled the world, the
Soranians, yet now they are little more than animals –
or so it has always been. Rumors of a new leader among the
Goraspans has stricken fear into the hearts of the leaders of
the free world, and as Kallis and Vander pursue their quarry,
it becomes clear this is more than a quest to find a single
aberration; this is a mission to save the world from a
terrible fate. The echoes of the dark past resonate ever more
loudly with each passing mile, leading to an ultimate
confrontation between the Hunter and and the greatest evil
his world has ever known.
