Summary
A slave boy named Darik falls in with a pair of spies as
the great city of Balsalom comes under siege by the armies of
a dark wizard. They flee west to enlist the aid of griffin
riders, an order of wizards, and a band of ascetic knights to
come to the city's defense. Meanwhile, a young queen named Kallia leads a heroic
struggle to keep both her city and body free from the dark
wizard's cruel embrace. After a treacherous attack opens
Balsalom to the armies of the enemy, Kallia assembles an
unlikely alliance of palace servants, barbarians, and jealous
merchants to retake her city before its people are led away
in chains. The Story continues in Book #2: The Free Kingdoms Praise for Michael Wallace's Other Books:
The Righteous
"Wallace authoritatively and unsparingly tears open the
veil shrouding a Utah polygamist community and its secret
oaths of blood atonement, temple sacrifice, and angels with
drawn swords. Inside we find a riveting thriller that
recaptures everything lost from the original American
religion."
Michael Wallace is the top 20 Kindle bestselling author of
The Righteous, a series of polygamist thrillers recently
picked up by Thomas & Mercer for wider distribution. He
other books include the thrillers The Devil's Deep and State
of Siege, and the fantasy novel, The Kingdom of the
Bears.From the Back Cover
"Deeply engrossing! Michael Wallace delivers the
thinking man's thriller while establishing one of the
freshest male leads in crime fiction--Jacob Christianson, an
aspiring doctor and cult elder's favored son. Jacob's
analytic nature has him questioning everything, including the
nature of God and the sexist politics of polygamy. It also
makes him a perfect fit to track down a killer whose grisly
crimes threaten Jacob's community, family, and soon, his very
life."
